Amsterdam Fringe Festival

Where: Brakke Grond, Nes 45, Amsterdam (Fringe Festival Centre) / Various locations around Amsterdam

Catch the last eccentric offerings of the Amsterdam Fringe Festival this weekend, as the wildcard theatre & dance extravaganza winds down for 2019. Amsterdam’s version of the world famous Fringe Festival is a delightfully free, open & uncurated programme that invites you on a journey; not just to the fringe of performing arts, but also to the fringe of the city! With a hugely varied agenda of over 80 performances in 30+ locations around the Dam, Fringe is the cool kid on the block when it comes to all things art, culture & theatre. It’s all about promoting freedom of spirit, artistic freedom, and the breaking of cultural boundaries, and it’s closing weekend promises to embody all of this and more. So come, be curious, be surprised, be inspired, and let Fringe Festival free your mind from it’s socially constructed box… because as the folks at Fringe say, boxes are for pussies ;)

Saturday 14 September:

Andrei Tarkovsky: The Exhibition

Where: The Eye Film Museum, IJpromenade 1, 1031 KT Amsterdam

The quest for that niggly, evasive little thing we like to call existential truth is by no means an easy one, but few have managed to get as far as celebrated Russian filmmaker, Andrei Tarkovsky. This Saturday marks the opening of the Eye Museum’s intimate exhibition on the visionary truth-seeker, featuring screenings of his complete oeuvre plus an exciting collection of personal letters, photos & polaroids never before displayed in the Netherlands. His films show scenes dripping with rich & complex imagery, yet still looking as though they’ve been pulled straight from a painting. This innovative, immersive approach to cinema as a way to link dreams & reality made Tarkovsky a leader in the language of modern film. His observations and influence are still highly visible in contemporary cinema, as we continue to see his quest to find the “inner voice of humankind” living on in the work of modern filmmakers. Maybe the truth is closer than you think…

Wild as the Moon: The Monastery Reunion

Where: De Marktkantine, Jan van Galenstraat 6, 1051 KM Amsterdam

This Saturday, as the full moon beams down on the Dam, you best get your crystals charged and your inner-wolf channeled — because we’re about to get wild as the moooooon! An otherworldly party that only comes around once in a full moon (punny!), this club night is not like the others… A transcendent mix of sexy spirituality, banging beats, and a whole lot more, Wild as the Moon will send your soul sky high and beyond. The night kicks off with a group moon meditation, but as it continues you’ll find secret stages, massage zones, a market of curiosities, energy cleansing’s and card readings… If that doesn’t get your inner moonchild howling, we don’t know what will!
